Originally from Birmingham, Mandy moved to New Zealand in 1998 and completed a bachelor degree from Unitec School of Design in 2012.
Mandy is known for her use of enamel, her unique approach to the traditional process of enamelling seeks to expand the preconceptions of a finished surface. She describes the process:
"enamel are grains of glass fired at around 700-800 degrees to form a smooth shiny surface on metal, it's clean, it's tidy it's precise...... (when studying) I started to explore, and rather than be tight decided to be contrary and do something opposite - using a liquid enamel is very painterly, I paint it on to the copper, put it in the kiln and let the fire do the job, every time its a new experience."
The aesthetics of decay and obsolescence along with the beauty of impermanence inform Mandy's work. "I see the value of things that are discarded, I spend a lot of time looking at things like rust and peeling paint, I think there is an urban quality that comes from my Birmingham upbringing."
