"I love to make and I still have in my studio an object that I remember making as a little boy. I made it from a shape of copper that I formed with a hammer on the doorstep off my father's shed. I used a nail to punch a pattern on its surface, I glued some gold chocolate box wrapper to the back to shine though the nail holes and I glued some coloured rhinestones in around it, but at the time I didn't have the knowledge to make a pin for it.
In 1994 I finished a 4 year Advanced Diploma at Dunedin School of Art where I had the amazing opportunity to learn from artists and craftspeople from around New Zealand. I had a studio with the Dunedin ArtHouse Cooperative and I had my work represented in Fingers and other galleries throughout New Zealand before I moved to the UK. When I came back to New Zealand I shared my time between making my art and jewellery and bringing up my two boys with my forever loving and supportive partner, Anne-Louise. I built a house and a small studio with a fantastic view of the Otago Peninsula in Otepoti Dunedin where I continue to make and follow my creative journey, from wood to shell to stone to silver to found objects, especially finding the unexpected qualities of the most ordinary materials."
