My concept was: How far can l stretch reclaimed materials (Pounamu, gold, silver).
Flatten water-cast ingots into discs over several courses of forging, leaving trails of heavy texture and highly polished surfaces, and incorporating Pounamu.

Set of Pairs
In this body of work 2 pairs of earrings are related to one another.
Arc I and Arc II became a set after creating the framework for Arc I.
I decided not to go ahead with that particular design as a new concept, Arc II, presented itself.
It's a set as the silver framework structures are like a ghost print echoing the resemblance of the Jade shapes used during the fabrication of both pairs.
The inspiration for Kauri Gum I and II are based on the Kauri mangroves. Different techniques where explored eg. carved shapes vs use of raw material, incorporating Tangiwai and mangrove shoots becoming prongs.
Cuttlefish I and II where created from one piece of cast silver. The cuttlefish was used back to back leaving different patterns on either side. The ingot was sliced in half.
For cuttlefish II, i used the inner parts which were cut out to allow space for the Jade settings in cuttlefish I.

This collection consists of tensile, extremely light in weight, elegant structures which I created from refurbished gold and Pounamu.
Mindful of dwindling resources, together with the high ecological cost of mining gold, I consciously challenged myself to minimise my use of materials in creating these durable pieces without sacrificing design.
The titles reflect the weight of each piece; in general, they are less than a third of the weight of my usual work.

#NUMBERED – The Kauri Collection
Earlier this year I accepted an invitation to produce a body of work using Kauri wood and gum for an exhibition at the NZ Kauri Museum. I am forever grateful to have participated in that exhibition as working with these extremely beautiful New Zealand heritage materials prove to be a new source of inspiration.
My aim at any given time is to enhance and showcase the intrinsic beauty in the materials I work with, and to challenge myself to find different fabricating techniques.
The titles for my jewellery are a sequential number of their position in the weeks, during lockdown, of experimental hand building all the original one-off art works.
